I have made art in many forms my entire life and firmly believe that the creative process of art-making is central to my being and profoundly effects how I make films.  Making art has shaped my approach to filmmaking in that I try to evoke emotional responses to the subjects I film through the use of color and texture as well as visual structure and narrative. When deciding on what I want to paint, draw, or collage, I look for things that pull me in visually and emotionally, things that I want to render and grasp.  I take a similar approach in my film work. I pay attention to what questions I need to grapple with and understand, and I work to get at the heart of the film‘s main subject and make the viewer experience it both visually and emotionally.
