Video-making for the Environment!

sqr foot garden _ kids putting down idea

In this workshop students look at a variety of videos that address issues of climate change and pollution, from governmental PSA's to cleanup challenges. We discuss which videos we think are the most effective and why. We come up with our own video ideas that address specific environmental problems and inspire actions. Working in groups we create production plans and storyboards for each of these projects, identifying our audience, point of view, tone, message, and a circulation plan.

Journey through the
Eyes of the Immigrant-photographer

In this workshop series, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students work with teacher/poet Sonia Arora to explore bilingual stories about journeys, real and metaphorical, and compose stories of their own.  I conduct a class on portraiture, and take photo portraits of each student that evoke the individual stories they want to tell. The project culminates in a reading and a gallery exhibition of photos and audio recordings in the new ESOL Wing of the Port Washington Library.
